The blue video game hedgehog is back at the start: After the first Sonic film became a success, fans now have every reason to be happy. A second part will definitely come and now it is already clear when the popular cult character will be racing across the canvases again. We'll tell you what other details we already know about Sonic 2 here.
The first Sonic movie didn't have a glamorous start after it was officially announced for the first time. On the one hand, video game adaptations already have a bad reputation with many cinema-goers. On the other hand, the first trailer caused plenty of derision and ridicule on the Internet. Especially the animations in the preview and the appearance of Sonic had to put up with a lot of criticism. After the team behind the film got back to work and polished up the blockbuster, the big surprise came: The film was able to gross more than $ 300 million worldwide and was ultimately also received positively by the audience.
Given this spectacular triumph, it was probably only a matter of time before one would consider a sequel. However, the first planning phase has apparently already been left behind. In fact, there is already a US start date for the sequel. As Variety reveals, Paramount has set this for April 8, 2022. However, given the current Corona crisis, one should of course expect the start to change. After all, massive blockbusters like Fast And Furious 9 or Mission: Impossible 7 had to be installed.
Ben Schwartz, Sonic's American voice actor, shared the same start date for Sonic 2. The star shared the news on Twitter for excited fans who are already looking forward to the sequel. It has not yet been confirmed whether Jim Carrey and other stars will also be involved in Sonic 2. Of course, there is also the question of how the story in Sonic 2 will continue. We’ll keep you up to date with news about the sequel. What do you want most from the sequel?
