In the coming year, the award-winning Pixar Animation Studios will take us to Bella Italia with their latest animation adventure, LUCA. The warmest new Pixar comedy takes place in a beautiful coastal village on the Italian Riviera.
Here the little boy Luca, together with his new, best friend, experiences the summer of his life – full of ice cream, pasta and endless scooter rides. But there is a deep secret about all the fun: Luca is a sea monster from another world that lies below the surface of the sea …
“It's a pretty personal story for me,” says director Enrico Casarosa, “and not just because the film takes place on the Italian Riviera where I grew up, but because it is essentially about friendship that is celebrated here. Childhood friendships often give direction to who we want to be and it is these close connections that make up the heart of LUCA. In addition to the beauty and charm of the Italian coast, the film is about an unforgettable summer adventure that Luca will change fundamentally. ”
After an excursion into the culinary world of France in RATATOUILLE (2007) and the breathtaking Scottish Highlands in MERIDA – LEGEND OF THE HIGHLANDS (2012), Disney • Pixar's newest masterpiece LUCA plays again against a European backdrop. Staged by Oscar®-nominated director Enrico Casarosa (“La Luna”) and produced by Andrea Warren (“Lava,” CARS 3), the Dolce Vita Italiens is this time the setting for the unique, warm-hearted, funny and extraordinary stories, as only Pixar can tell them. LUCA will be released in German cinemas on September 30, 2021.
